Covering approximately 14,750 square kilometers, Serengeti National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the heart of Tanzania’s Northern Safari Circuit. Its name comes from the Maasai word “Siringet”, meaning endless plains a perfect description of the park’s breathtaking landscapes.
The Serengeti is famous for its untouched wilderness, rich biodiversity, and year-round game viewing.

Great Wildebeest Migration Calendar
The Great Wildebeest Migration is a year-round movement of over 1.5 million wildebeest, accompanied by zebras and gazelles, across the Serengeti–Maasai Mara ecosystem. The migration does not stop it changes location throughout the year, offering unique experiences in every season.
January – February
Southern Serengeti (Ndutu Area)
Calving season begins, with thousands of wildebeest calves born daily. Predator activity is at its peak, offering dramatic wildlife encounters and excellent photography opportunities.
March – April
Southern to Central Serengeti
The herds begin moving northward as the rains end. The landscape is lush and green, with fewer visitors and beautiful scenery.
May – June
Central to Western Serengeti
Migration heads toward the Western Corridor. This period often features the first major river crossings at the Grumeti River, with strong predator action.
July – August
Northern Serengeti
The most famous phase of the migration dramatic crossings of the Mara River. Crocodiles, fast currents, and large herds create one of nature’s most powerful spectacles.
